Porcelain crown fused to metal
This is the final result that increased the quality of the patient’s life by helping in chewing, speaking and aesthetically. The process of making the bridge: First phase: grinding, taking an imprint, making temporary crowns. Second phase (after three workdays): frame testing, choosing the right colour. Third phase (after another three workdays): matt colour testing, checking of the shape and colour. Last phase: bonding. It is a metal-ceramic bridge, it has a frame made out of anti-allergenic alloy, the ceramic layers are burnt onto it. Due to the shoulder preparation gingivitis will not occur and no black-metallic colour will appear on the gum around the bridge.
This patient was terrified of the dentist, but finally he decided to have his teeth done as the remaining ones were in pain and he couldn’t chew with them properly. Let’s save what can be saved! It’s fortunate that important pillar teeth remained and were saveable, so it was possible to plan building up a circular bridge. We agreed in root canal treatment and the patient requested for a shoulder prepared metal-ceramic bridge.
Contrary to the traditional/old school preparation, the shoulder-grinding can ensure the continuity between the crown and the gum and can provide the easy clearability so it can help keeping the gum healthy. No more sore/inflamed gum or bleeding at brushing the teeth, there is no periodontal destruction or gum shrinking and there is no black-metallic colour appearance around the crown. The shoulder preparation increases the lifespan of the crown, it is aesthetical and it doesn’t harm the gum. Our dentist prefer the shoulder prepared crowns against the traditional ones. It is a very wise decision to choose this type of crown against the traditional as it can save you from acquiring an allergic syndrome in ten or twenty years and it can help you to avoid having physical illnesses such as loss of immunity, formation of inflammatory nodule, hair loss, rheumatic disease, etc.
The gingivitis that has been risen because of traditional crowns can be cured if the crowns are replaced and the stumps are re-grinded to become shoulder-prepared, so the old crown/bridge can be replaced by a brand new one that sorts out the problems.
